Buying a new rug can completely transform a room. It can make it more warm, more colorful and more structured. In partnership with Kalora, M2GO gives you 5 tips to help you choose the right rug size!
The standard rug size is 5'x8'.
These are often used for living rooms, with furniture placed around the rug.
An 8'x11' rug allows the furniture legs to be placed on the rug, which pulls the room together. In a large room there should generally be at least 18 inches of bare floor surrounding the rug to give the illusion of a bigger area.
In the bedroom, the rug should be wider than the bed frame to anchor it. Often, single (39'') and double (54'') beds work well with a 5'x8' size rug.
For queen (60'') and king (78'') bed sizes, a large rug such as an 8'x11' should be used. The rug should be wide enough for one or two steps to be taken when getting out of bed.
To allow the back legs of the chairs to be on the rug, it should extend 24 inches past the table's edge. A 5'x8' rug is often used for smaller tables with seating for 2-4, while larger tables require at least an 8'x11' rug for 6-8 people.
